Lucca Classica Music Festival
LADRE DI SABBIA
By and with Guido Barbieri.
It tells the story of Cape Verdean women forced to ‘steal’ sand from the archipelago's beaches to resell it to local construction companies. A way, often the only one possible, to survive the poverty to which many of them are condemned. The work revolves around ‘live’ images created by Gabriella Compagnone, one of Italy's best known and most appreciated sand artists, and uses a text written for the occasion by playwright Guido Barbieri. The musical part is entrusted to the quintet of the Calamani Philharmonic Orchestra conducted for the occasion by violinist and composer Marcello Fera, who has transcribed for string orchestra some of the most beautiful Cape Verdean mornas
